The Vancouver Canucks have placed a forward on waivers after two big trades on Friday.

The Vancouver Canucks changed the fortunes of their franchise, for better or worse, on Friday but the fallout from those moves has not completely settled just yet.

On Saturday, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Canucks were placing forward Phil Di Giuseppe on waivers just one day after pulling off a pair of huge trades. It seems very likely that the decision to waive Di Giuseppe comes as a direct result of the transactions the team made on Friday.

The 31 year old will now be eligible to be claimed by any rival team in the NHL, and Di Giuseppe has played well enough this season that it is not outside the realm of possibility. The former 2nd round pick (38th overall) of the Carolina Hurricanes at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft has 20 games under his belt this season and has recorded 1 goal and 5 assists for a total of 6 points over that stretch.

Phil Di Giuseppe also comes at a very manageable cap hit of just $775,000 and is currently in the second year of a 2 year deal which makes him an extremely low risk type of option. Di Giuseppe will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of his deal.

That being said, with both the 4 Nations Face-Off and the NHL's trade deadline just around the corner, it is an inherently risky time to be picking up a player so I suspect that Di Giuseppe is unlikely to be claimed. That being said there are teams making room on their roster, like the San Jose Sharks who unloaded 2 players earlier today, so it's not outside the realm of possibility.
