The Montreal Canadiens have officially given up on former first round pick Nicolas Beaudin.

On Sunday, the Canadiens announced in an official statement that Beaudin would be placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

The decision reportedly stems from a mutual agreement between the two parties, with Beaudin reportedly unhappy with the limited play time he was getting within the Canadiens organization.

Beaudin was not drafted by the Canadiens, instead being selected in the first round (27th overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks organization. The Canadiens would subsequently acquire Beaudin in October of 2022 when they dealt forward Cam Hillis to the Chicago Blackhawks for the defenseman.

Beaudin was never deployed at the NHL level following the trade to Montreal.
