Emotions were high for Blues defenseman Cam Fowler on Thursday night when his former teammates of the Anaheim Ducks came to play in St. Louis. Fowler was not only honored in a pregame ceremony for playing in his 1,000th NHL game when he played in the Winter Classic, but he was surprised by his former teammates before the contest as they wanted to offer him a present and get a real chance to say goodbye to him.

Fowler got to the hotel where the Ducks were staying only to find the entire team in a room looking to thank him for the 991 games he played for the franchise.

The blue liner, who was accompanied by his wife and son, was surprised when his former teammates shared speeches and offered him a Rolex. They also offered a present to his wife and gave his son a matching Cars watch so he can be just like his dad.

“It’s different,” Fowler said. “Those are some of my best friends over there. Obviously it’s been a transition for me. I’m making new friendships here in this locker room and we have a great group of guys here. It’s going to be a unique experience for me lining up on the other side of those guys, but I’m going to try and do it with a smile on my face and just enjoy it and then get a chance to catch up with some of them after the game."

The Ducks also participated in the ceremony for Fowler’s 1000th game. They however went on to lose 6-2 at the hands of their former teammates’ club as the veteran blue liner is now up to 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in St. Louis.
