Cam Fowler has finally been traded.
The St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks have made a trade, with veteran defenseman Cam Fowler on the move.
The Anaheim Ducks have finally pulled the trigger on a long rumored trade.
According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, veteran defenseman Cam Fowler will be on the move to a new team Saturday after rumors about a potential trade involving Fowler have floated around the National Hockey League since prior to the start of the regular season. Fowler will now be the newest member of the St. Louis Blues, with a pair of draft picks as well as another player involved in this deal.
According to Friedman, Fowler is headed to the Blues alongside a fourth round pick, with the Ducks receiving a second round pick as well as a minor league prospect in return for the trade. No word yet on which prospect has been sent to Anaheim in exchange for Fowler as of yet.
Fowler has been a member of the Ducks organization for his entire career since being selected in the first round (13th overall) of the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Since that time Fowler has gone on to appear in 991 career games as a member of the Ducks, recording 96 goals and 361 assists for a total of 457 career points.
During that time Fowler has endured some pretty tough seasons and it was clear that things were coming to a head this season with Anaheim still rebuilding and Fowler nearing the end of his contract.
Fowler is current in the 7th year of an 8 year deal he signed with the Ducks, one that carries a significant cap hit at an average annual value of $6.5 million per season.
Update: The prospect in the deal is 22 year old undrafted defenseman Jeremie Biakabutuka. Biakabutuka has never played in the NHL and has a total of 5 games, spread across 3 seasons, in the American Hockey League under his belt thus far in his career.
Update2: The Ducks are retaining $2.5 million on Fowler's contract as a part of this deal as per NHL insider David Pagnotta.
