Bruins captain Brad Marchand reveals his biggest regrets

The long-time Bruins forward has a pair of clear regrets during his career.

Shortly after the retirement of longtime franchise mainstay Patrice Bergeron, the Boston Bruins acted quickly and named none other than Brad Marchand as his replacement as team captain.

One of the longest-tenured Bruins players in team history, Marchand has been a mainstay in the lineup since his rookie season of 2010-11 that culminated in the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship since the early 1970s. The Bruins have twice been to the Stanley Cup Final since then, but fell short on both occasions.

While he's been regarded as one of the more talented players in the NHL, he's also developed a reputation for easily getting under the skin of opponents and playing with an edge, resulting in eight different suspensions.

And as far as Marchand is concerned, he has two major regrets during his career. The first was the infamous incident in which he literally licked the face of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Callahan during a scrum; the second when he intentionally whacked his stick across the mask of Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry while also delivering a punch:

"I think we all have to agree the dumbest moment of my career, I'm trying to think, there are a few. A very blatant, obvious one is the Ryan Callahan one," said Marchand. "The one on Jarry wasn't very smart either. Those are a couple of bad ones."

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney indicated during his end-of-season media availability that he intends to make Marchand a "Bruin for life". Don't be surprised to see Marchand agree to an extension before too long that ensures his remaining with the Bruins for the remainder of his NHL career.
