The Bruins are stripping it down for the first time in how long?

Details of the deal courtesy of the Oilers' official website:

EDMONTON, AB – The Edmonton Oilers have made a pair of trades with Boston and New Jersey to acquire forwards Trent Frederic and Max Jones along with the rights to forward Petr Hauser.

Trade 2: New Jersey trades Trent Frederic (50% salary retained) to Edmonton in exchange for unsigned draft choice Shane Lachance.

Trade 3: Boston trades Max Jones and unsigned draft choice Petr Hauser to Edmonton in exchange for Max Wanner, St. Louis' second-round pick in 2025 (owned by Edmonton) and Edmonton's own fourth-round selection in 2026.

UPDATE 2: According to reports from NHL insiders Elliotte Friedman and Frank Seravalli, the Boston Bruins have traded forward Trent Frederic and Max Jones to the Edmonton Oilers.

More to come, including full details and confirmation from both the Bruins and Oilers.

UPDATE: This just in from Boston Bruins head coach Joe Sacco, Bruins captain Brad Marchand is out 'week to week' with an upper body injury.

Marchand suffered the injury this past weekend when he took a nasty hit from behind into the end boards from Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman P.O. Joseph.

Check it out:

This is a double edged knife in the Bruins' back. Marchand is, obviously, now unavailable to help the team get back into a playoff position and he's also off the trade market ahead of Friday's deadline.

Read below for our earlier report linking the Bruins and the Edmonton Oilers on a potential Marchand trade.

We're just a few days away from the NHL's trade deadline on Friday afternoon and the rumor mill is working overtime this week.

There are daily reports that the Edmonton Oilers are trying to secure some depth scoring for their lineup and that GM Stan Bowman is approaching teams with his best offers in hand. The latest rumor today is that the Oilers GM could approach the Boston Bruins and inquire about captain and pending unrestricted free agent Brad Marchand. Additionally, there's a proposed trade out there that could see the Bruins land both Marchand and Bruins tough guy Trent Frederic.

Oilers insider Daniel Nugent-Bowman and Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa broke it all down today for The Athletic:

To Edmonton: Brad Marchand, Trent Frederic
To Boston: Viktor Arvidsson, Beau Akey, first-round pick

Allan Mitchell, Oilers writer: There are two NMC clauses (Arvidsson, Marchand) in this deal so it’s unlikely to happen. However, Frederic may well be a target for Edmonton. If the Bruins decide to trade him, the Oilers need to be all over it. Oilers fans would love Frederic. He’s a rugged, determined player with some skill.

Fluto Shinzawa, Bruins writer: This starts the conversation. If the Bruins move Marchand, the current market price is a first, a high-level prospect and a young roster player. So, if Frederic is involved, the Bruins would want at least a second-round pick to complete the deal.

Nugent-Bowman, Oilers writer: I’m with Allan. It would be a nice get if the Oilers can find a way to get Frederic at a lower cost.

The key in this deal is getting both Marchand and Arvidsson to waive their no-trade clause(s). While Marchand has stated that he plans on retiring as a member of the Bruins, he still could re-sign with the team as a free agent this upcoming offseason. I could see him waiving his no-trade for a rental deal with the Oilers. Arvidsson though... he's in year one of a two year deal and given the state of the Bruins I'm not sure he's interested in languishing in Boston for an entire season. I think convincing Arvidsson to waive his deal is the key to this proposed deal.
