Brad Treliving responds to bombshell rumors around Mitch Marner.
The GM of the Maple Leafs held an emergency press conference to address the bombshell rumors around his star forward.
In spite of the fact that he was not traded at the National Hockey League's Trade Deadline, Toronto Maple Leafs star forward Mitch Marner has been through a bit of a whirlwind over the weekend.
First, reports that Marner had refused to waive his no movement clause in order to facilitate a swap with the Carolina Hurricanes for star forward Mikko Rantanen leaked out which in turn led to Marner being asked a series of question about his future following Saturday night's loss to the Carolina Hurricanes, a series of difficult questions that left the Maple Leafs forward visibly emotional.
Due to all of the noise around Marner this weekend, Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving held something of an emergency press conference to address that very subject. Treliving had not been scheduled to speak with the media but in his impromptu address to reporters he reiterated his desire to keep Marner in Toronto for the foreseeable future.
"I wanted to make sure we came out, addressed it," said Treliving. "I support Mitch 1000 per cent and he’s not out here on an island with us. We’re trying to worry about winning hockey games."
Treliving also claimed that all of the noise around Marner has not been a distraction, but the mere fact that he came out and spoke to the media on Sunday would appear to suggest otherwise.
"We want Mitch here for a long time. It’s not a distraction," said Treliving.
What do you think of Treliving's comments today following the reports that he approached Marner about waiving his no movement clause at the deadline? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
