Ever since the 2022-23 season kicked off, all eyes have been on this year’s top draft picks, especially when it comes to Montreal Canadiens’ Juraj Slafkovsky and Seattle Kraken’s Shane Wright.

Wright was projected to be the top pick in the draft, but ended up going fourth with the Kraken. As a result of this fall in the draft many were excited to see how Wright would perform in the season, especially when some extra motivation now fuelling his desire to prove to the Habs they should have taken him first.

However, this probably isn’t how Wright saw his NHL career starting off. The rookie was used on the fourth line on his first game and was a healthy scratch for the second and third contest of Seattle’s season.

Then on Monday night for the fourth game on the calendar, but just his second, Wright was used for just six minutes and 50 seconds, just 36 seconds more than in his other contest.

Once again, Wright is trending as fans have been quite vocal about his start in the big league. Some believe he’s wasting his time and, as long as he’s only getting scraps on a fourth line, he should return to his junior club to allow him to play bigger minutes and dominate the circuit. Others think it will be more beneficial for him to stay with the Kraken and to learn on the spot the rudiments of the NHL.

It is true that the way the Kraken has used him could be extremely bad for his development. The Kraken will need to make that decision soon on what comes next for Wright.

Let's see what happens tonight as the Kraken takes on the St. Louis Blues.
