Analyst brutalizes Stuart Skinner and says Oilers fans “deserve better”

The Edmonton Oilers find themselves trailing two games to one against the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Finals after they blew a 2-0 first period lead en route to a 5-3 setback on home ice. The Stars were powered by a hat trick from forward Jason Robertson, while Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner once again faced criticism for a subpar performance. 

He allowed four goals on the 21 shots that he faced, bringing his total save percentage for the postseason to an extremely pedestrian .885, the lowest mark of any playoff goaltender who has seen action in at least five games.

David Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, took Skinner to task in brutal fashion by saying that watching his performances makes him physically ill while also opining that the Oilers fan base as a whole deserves better than what they've been getting. 

"Watching Skinner makes me want to puke," he wrote on social media. "Oiler fans deserve more. Listen, this is a game that the Oilers just could not blow in their own barn. Up 2-0, give it up 2-2, then tie it up 3-3."

"But this goal, Skinner, like, well, Skinner, what are you, what are you doing? You're all twisted around, just just hold the post. This is the worst goalie play I've ever seen. Just make yourself big, and hold the post."

"He's twisting. He's doing calisthenics. This is might be youth hockey stuff. You can't even play in the all with that. I mean, just disgusting. You f**king disgusting."

Skinner himself would admit afterward that he should have made the save on the goal that changed the momentum of the evening for the Oilers, who raced out to a quick start but quickly experienced pushback from the Stars in the final two periods. 

"He went around and banked it off me," Skinner said. "I tried my best in the quickness of the situation, but Robertson was able to make a nice play. It’s something I have to save.”

Head coach Kris Knoblauch has already indicated that it will be Skinner getting the start in tomorrow night's critical Game 4. Is he making the right call, and can Skinner help the Oilers avoid falling into a three games to one hole?
