All hell breaks loose after dirty play at the final buzzer.
Niko Mikkola runs away after causing a brawl at the final buzzer!
A wild scene has just unfolded in Florida today after an exciting clash between the Florida Panthers and the Montreal Canadiens.
The two sides played a back and forth game that saw the lead change multiple times, with the Canadiens eventually picking up a 3-2 regulation victory and giving their playoff hopes a significant boost in the process. What should have been a moment of celebration for the Canadiens however would take on a very different tone.
That's because in the dying seconds of the game, Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola made the bizarre decision of firing off a puck full force in the direction of Canadiens defenseman David Savard.
The dirty play from Mikkola was enough to enrage the Canadiens who suddenly charged the remaining Panthers on the ice in a desperate attempt to get their hands on Mikkola. In an even more unbelievable turn of events, Mikkola would do the unthinkable and ran away to the Panthers bench in a rather cowardly manner. Instead of heading back to the locker room however, Mikkola would remain at the bench door taunting the Canadiens while clearly having no intention of responding to the physical challenges from the players on the ice.
The Canadiens were clearly furious at the whole situation, and even more so givne Mikkola's rather unflattering behavior after taking the shot at Savard, but they won't have to wait long for their chance at revenge. These two teams are set to face one another again in only a few days, except this time it will be in Montreal at the Bell Centre on Tuesday.
Niko Mikkola may have been able to run away today, but he won't be able to hide for very much longer.
