After years of dealing with brutal injuries, Cory Schneider is now back in the NHL

Yes! Love this! The guy was an absolute STUD for years. Really pulling for him.

The New York Islanders announced earlier today that veteran goaltender Semyon Varlamov and, as a result, the team has recalled goaltender Cory Schneider from the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders on an emergency basis.

It's expected that Schneider will back up Ilya Sorokin until Varlamov can return to the lineup but... honestly... I'd really love to see Schneider get some action in the NHL again. He was a stud goaltender for so many years before injuries forced him out of the league too early. He has scratched and clawed his way back to the NHL though and I'd love to see him get some playing time.

The truth is that he's been pretty bad in Bridgeport this season with a 3.08 goals against average and a .906 save percentage in 16 games. His last bit of NHL action came in 2019 with the New Jersey Devils when it was clear that his hip was failing him. But... if you look at the span from 2011-2016 with the Vancouver Canucks and the Devils, Schneider was absolutely lights out. His career best year came in 2011-12 with the Canucks when he posted an insane 1.96 GAA and .936 save percentage. Yowza...

Here's hoping that Schneider has at least one more NHL game left in his career.
