Forward Johnny Gaudreau might be on pace for his first 100-plus point season with the Calgary Flames, the Canadian team is reportedly looking to make moves at this year’s trade deadline.
On Tuesday, Pierre LeBrun explained how he spoke with general manager Brad Treliving, who revealed that he was looking for secondary scoring. This is what LeBrun mentioned on last night’s Insider Trading on TSN:
“If there is an area that he is looking at right now it’s secondary scoring, perhaps a dip into that trade market. Now, he does think that some of that secondary scoring can come from improvement from within. In fact he pointed out that Blake Coleman, before the break, was starting to come on offensively, but yes, if there is a trade to come that’s probably where they’re going to look.”
LeBrun also revealed two other Canadian teams the Flames could target to get the help up front Calgary is looking for:
“And this is me, not him, I think he’s got natural trade partners in teams like the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators in terms of looking at the forward market and in general, it’s interesting to me that a lot of the top playoff contenders are looking at defence, which might give the Flames a bit of an edge in terms of going through the forward market.”
A lot of players in Montreal are going to land on the trade block ahead of the March 21st deadline. Though it is believed that new GM Kent Hughes is looking at a retool more than a rebuild.
When it comes to Ottawa, there is a sense that a trade could take place. General manager Pierre Dorion revealed to Post Media last week that the Senators want to make “hockey trades” at this deadline, meaning that if they can find a player that fits the mould and will be able to help them get off to a better start next season, then that’s the kind of trade he’d like to make.
Will it be with Calgary?
