14 teams penalized for cap overage, including 9 playoff contenders!

Cap Friendly revealed on Friday how close than half the National Hockey League will be penalized on the 2022-23 salary cap because of bonus overage.
In a series of tweets, Cap Friendly reports that they have “calculated the earned performance bonuses for every player this season, and have identified that 14 teams couldn’t absorb these bonuses with cap space. The result for these teams is a reduced salary cap ceiling in 2022-23.”
Out of the 14 teams, eight are currently contenders in the postseason: the Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals.
The tweets are below show where the overage comes from, which players' performance bonuses will be added on because it cannot be absorb with the cap space available this season.
The other teams that will need to deal with overage in 2022-23 are the Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks.
As Cap Friendly explains the result for these teams is a reduced salary cap ceiling in 2022-23, which is expected to rise to $82.5 million.
