Another year in the NHL for the big man?

It would appear as though there may be a path to another year in the National Hockey League for beloved NHL veteran defenseman Zdeno Chara.

On Monday morning, New York Islanders insider Arthur Staple dropped a rather interesting nugget about another franchise in the state of New York, the New York Rangers. According to Staple, the Rangers are still actively seeking a veteran defenseman that is still on the open market, one that would be willing to come in a professional tryout offer (PTO).

Staple believes that the options for the Rangers in this regard are relatively limited, and as a result he listed off 3 veteran defenseman that he believes would fit the mold. The most notable name included on the list was that of the aforementioned Chara, but Staple also listed veteran defensemen Thomas Hickey and Michael Stone as possible options as well.

It could very well be a long shot, but we could soon see Chara competing for one more year in the NHL out of Rangers' training camp. That of course would not only require the Rangers to actually extend the offer to the towering defenseman, but would also require Chara to have the desire to accept such an offer.

Chara demonstrated last season with the New York Islanders that he can still contribute, appearing in 72 games for that team during the regular season and recording 2 goals and 12 assists for a total of 14 points in a season that saw him finish with a plus minus rating of +8.
