WWE wrestler Kevin Owens speaks out on the Bruce Boudreau fiasco.
Kevin Owens shares his thoughts on his friend Bruce Boudreau.
The Bruce Boudreau fiasco in Vancouver finally came to an end on Sunday and although the controversy surrounding the now former Vancouver Canucks head coach will eventually stop boiling, it may be quite a while before things truly cool down completely.
Since Boudreau has been fired, many figures in the hockey community have spoken out about the mistreatment he received at the hands of the Canucks organization. In what might be a bit of bad news for the Canucks however, it would appear as though word of that mistreatment has extended to even those outside of the hockey world.
As many of our readers will already know, Boudreau is an avid fan of WWE wrestling and he recently named WWE wrestler Kevin Owens as his favorite performer in the ring. This has resulted in several heartwarming interactions between Boudreau and Owens since the veteran head coach revealed his appreciation for the former WWE champion, so perhaps it should come as no surprise that Owens is now speaking out on Boudreau's behalf.
On Sunday, following the announcement of Boudreau's firing by the Canucks, Owens took to social media and praised Boudreau for just being an all around great guy. There were no nasty comments about the Canucks, no comments about the Canucks at all in fact, Owens instead came off just like a guy looking out for a good friend.
"Hey, you know who rules?" asked Owens on his social media before answering the question himself.
"Bruce Boudreau."
Owens has hardly been alone in his support of Boudreau though and that list seems to be ever growing with former NHL player Nate Thompson also recently expressing his thoughts on the situation.
"I understand the NHL is a business and they don’t owe us anything but at the same time I think Bruce has earned the respect," said the former NHLer.
Even Montreal Canadiens insider Eric Engels couldn't help but comment on the situation happening on the other side of the country.
"I can honestly say that, in my 15 yrs covering the NHL, I have never seen anything like this Bruce Boudreau fiasco. I have no clue how any organization—even one as apparently as dysfunctional as the Canucks—could operate this way. The cruelty of it aside, it’s just so ridiculous."
