While the Toronto Maple Leafs may not have gotten the result they wanted at Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday night against the visiting Los Angeles Kings, they were able to to etch some history into their record books courtesy of one particular player.

Forward William Nylander became the very first Leafs player in their history to star a regular season campaign with points in nine straight games thanks to the secondary assist that he registered on Leafs captain John Tavares' power-play goal.

According to the Swedish forward, it basically came down to something that was culminating with his play in the last few seasons.

“I just feel like I’m doing my thing that I’ve been doing the past couple of years,” Nylander said the day prior. “It’s nice that you say you think I’ve hit a new level. But I just keep going on.”

“If it happens, it happens,” he said. “I’m just focusing on having a good game tomorrow.”

It did in fact happen. He broke a tie with former Leafs players that included Frank Mahovlich (1961-62), Lanny McDonald (1976-77) and John Anderson (1982-83).

Tavares had this to say about Nylander and what he's been able to accomplish this season and throughout his career:

“I think we’ve seen that from some of the goals that he’s scored this year, right?” Tavares said. “Just pretty remarkable, remarkable plays, ability. And within those, you see the drive and determination. So, there’s no doubt he continues to push himself to wanting to be dominant, be one of the best players in the world, and make an impact on a nightly basis.”

Nylander and the Leafs will be attempting to become the first NHL team to dole their division rival Boston Bruins their first regular season loss of the year when they clash on Thursday night. Will Nylander keep his point streak alive?
