Wild GM Bill Guerin tears into NHL referees like never before.

Wild general manager Bill Guerin goes off on one NHL referee in particular.

It sounds like Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin has had all he can stomach of one of the National Hockey League's most controversial referees.

On Friday night, the Minnesota Wild faced off against the New York Islanders and throughout the course of the game there were a number of frustrating moments for the Wild when it comes to the officiating on the ice. One of the big ones was this sequence in which Islanders forward Bo Horvat would send Wild defenseman Jacob Middleton into the boards head first.

Here's a look at the video:

And another angle:

The Wild were expecting Horvat to earn a 5 minute major on the play but that would not be the case, with the frustration with referee Francois St. Laurent starting early. Things would only deteriorate further from there, resulting in Guerin using a pejorative to describe the referee while singling him out after the game itself.

"Bill Guerin livid there was no major called on Bo Horvat," reported Wild insider Mike Russo. "Steaming mad... [he] instructed the beat writers not to ask John Hynes about the minor vs. major and to go ask referee Francois St. Laurent (whom he called another name), then yelled the same to Hynes."

If Guerin was furious last night he will only be even angrier today with news coming down that the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has also decided not to punish Bo Horvat further for his infraction last night.

The NHL is not in the habit of taking comments like this about their officials lightly, and I do wonder if Guerin himself might not face consequences for his comments on Friday night.
