We now know why Tij Iginla was snubbed from Canada's World Juniors team
The son of Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla was not chosen to represent his country.
Last week when Hockey Canada unveiled its 'selection camp' roster for the upcoming World Junior Championships fans were surprised to see that four top 10 draft picks in 2024 were held off the roster. Beckett Sennecke, Tij Iginla, Carter Yakemchuk and Zayne Parekh were all kept off Canada's selection camp roster, sparking online discussion about Hockey Canada's strategy.
In the case of Iginla though, we now have some clarity on Hockey Canada's decision to forgo his inclusion. The son of Hockey Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla and the 6th overall selection at this past summer's NHL Entry Draft, announced today that he has undergone hip surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.
It's believed that Hockey Canada had knowledge of Iginla's condition and elected to bypass him in their selection process, as a result.
The 6', 195 pound forward has 14 goals and 32 points in just 21 games for the WHL's Kelowna Rockets this season, but he'll have to wait until next season at the earliest to get back on Hockey Canada's radar.
