Outta the crease!

Talk about wanting to protect his crease!

Seattle Kraken goaltender Philipp Grubauer took matters into his own hands at Climate Pledge Arena on Saturday night against the visiting Nashville Predators, taking special exception to the presence of newly acquired forward Jason Zucker in his crease.

In a scene reminiscent of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final in which Boston bruins goaltender Tim Thomas plowed through Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin for venturing into the blue paint, Grubauer trucked Zucker and sent him careening to the ice:

Right now, things aren't looking good for the prospects of a second straight trip to the postseason for the Kraken, as they currently sit 12th in the Western Conference. The Predators eventually emerged victorious over Seattle on Saturday night, winning by a score of 4-1 and staying red-hot.

It also hasn't been the best of seasons for Grubauer, who was selected by the Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft and is in his third year with the franchise. Right now, he has a record of 10-11-2 with a rather pedestrian goals against average of 2.86 and equally lukewarm save percentage of .900 with just one shutout.
