Three months ago, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that forward Samuel Poulin was taking a leave of absence from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins due to personal reasons. The young forward needed to take a pause to focus on his mental health at the time. He even returned to Montreal, where he still continued his workouts on and off the ice. However, the goal was to get back to shape mentally.
On Wednesday, Poulin himself released an update on his mental health, announcing via his personal Instagram account that he was ready to return to Wilkes-Barre to rejoin his team. He thanked his support system, but also urged everyone “to speak openly about mental health because it affects us all.”
Three years ago, the young forward was the Penguins’ first round pick at the NHL Draft. His scoring touch had convinced the team, though it’s been an uphill battle as soon as his NHL career kicked off.
He made his NHL debut back on October 25 against the Calgary Flames, and managed to record his first career point, an assist.
As of now, he only has three games of NHL experience. In 85 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins over the past two seasons, where he’s put up a total of 41 points.
