When the season came to an end for the New York Islanders, who were eliminated in the first playoff round by the New Jersey Devils, all eyes turned to veteran forward Zach Parise to determine if the 18-year veteran would continue his career.
After he was bought out by the Minnesota Wild following the 2020-21 season, Parise came to the Islanders rejoining with general manager Lou Lamoriello, who drafted him 17th overall back in 2003 while at the helm of the New Jersey Devils. In his exit interview, Parise mentioned how he would need time to make his decision on his future. Despite playing for the Islanders, his family has stayed in Minnesota. Now maybe the veteran forward would want to get closer to his loved ones while he keeps playing in the NHL, or moving to the Western conference.
Jason Gregor believes Parise has been listed as a potential fit for the Edmonton Oilers.
Parise will turn 39 next month, but still managed to put up a strong season with 21 goals and 13 assists, playing in all 82 games for a second consecutive year.
On top of that, his work ethic and leadership might be what the Oilers need to become a serious contender. This might be the type of boost in the dressing room needed in Edmonton.
Parise is expected to take the time before making a decision on his future in the NHL, and will have to consider all options out there. Including coming to Canada and potentially playing alongside Connor McDavid in Edmonton.
Stay tuned.
