Unsettling news in Calgary following Tyler Toffoli trade
Things aren’t exactly going the way Flames fans wanted it…

On Tuesday, the Calgary Flames traded forward Tyler Toffoli to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for the signing rights to forward Yegor Sharangovich and a third-round pick.
He is one of the first big moves out of Calgary after some top players like Elias Lindholm, Mikael Backlund and Noah Hanifin admitted they wanted out. Following the Toffoli trade, new general manager Craig Conroy was asked how things looked with other potential trade chips, and things don’t sound good on Lindholm.
“We’re still just talking with Elias right now and that’s kind of where we’re at. Nothing really to report right at this moment.”
Lindholm’s final year of his contract with the Flames begins on July 1. On Monday, prior to Toffoli trade, Pierre LeBrun shared some more on what could be happening in Calgary.
“Elias Lindholm, to our knowledge, has not told the Calgary Flames that he’s not going to re-sign. I think that’s important to note. He’s also not told exactly what he’s ready to do. So that sort-of limbo situation is interesting because teams are calling Calgary and saying ‘Would you do this? Would you do this?’ One thing the Flames have talked about internally, I’m told, is that they don’t need to decide this this week. That if they feel they still have a chance to sign Elias Lindholm, maybe this goes into late summer, goes into September, doesn’t have to be decided now.”
The Flames probably need to know what’s happening with Lindholm soon. However, they especially need to get it right.
