While the Toronto Maple Leafs haven't been a bad team this year, they've certainly not looked much like Stanley Cup contenders for the most part through the first month of their schedule. And it certainly would be a major monkey wrench into their spokes if they were to have to go without one of their top players moving forward.
The Leafs got a scare this morning at practice, as star forward Auston Matthews left practice early after blocking a shot:
However, the good news is that Leafs fans needn't worry about the reigning Rocket Richard Trophy winner's health status. According to head coach Sheldon Keefe, everything is A-okay with Matthews.
Matthews is another member of the Leafs who haven't exactly set the world on fire as of yet. His eight goals and 11 assists certainly are positive numbers, but a far cry from the torrid scoring pace of his last two seasons. Even so, he's currently on pace to score 36 goals with 50 assists, which are impressive numbers for just about any NHL player.
The Leafs will be back in action tomorrow night when they host the Buffalo Sabres at Scotiabank Arena.
