Earlier today we brought you news that trade talk around veteran winger Tyler Motte was heating up, and even went so far as to speculate that the New York Rangers could be one of the teams interested in his services, and now it has become reality.
According to an official announcement from the Ottawa Senators, they have sent Motte back to the New York Rangers where he will once again join them for another playoff run as he did prior to the 2022 National Hockey League trade deadline.
Going back the other way in this trade deal is forward forward Julien Gauthier as well as a conditional 7th round draft pick from the Rangers at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
Motte, a former 4th round pick (121st overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013, has appeared in 38 games for the Senators this season and has recorded 3 goals and 6 assists for a total of 9 points over that stretch. No doubt a bigger part of the equation here though was the Rangers' familiarity with Motte, after trading for him last year and using him in 15 games during their Stanley Cup playoff run in 2022.
Gauthier on the other hand is a former first round pick (21sit overall) who was selected by the Hurricanes at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in 40 games for the Rangers this season, recording 6 goals and adding 3 assists for a total of 9 points, and he will now join the third team of his relatively short NHL career thus far.
