A horrific act of violence has left the hockey community in mourning.
Tragically, two former college hockey players, Sidney Capolino, 23, from Pawling, New York, and Meghan Moore, 25, from Centerville, Massachusetts, were both killed in a double murder. The perpetrator, described as an "obsessive stalker" of Moore's, then took his own life.
Both young women were former players with the New England College women's hockey team; the school is located in Henniker, New Hampshire.
"New England College is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two recent graduates, Sidney Capolino '22 and Meghan Moore '21," New England College said in a statement. "Meghan and Sidney were known to many on campus, and we are keeping their families and friends in our thoughts and our prayers at this difficult time. As the campus community pauses to process the gravity of the event, it is important that we support and care for each other."
Barnstable Superintendent of Schools Sara Ahern released the following statement:
"The Barnstable Public Schools is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Meghan Moore, one of our former students and a 2017 graduate of Barnstable High School. She is described as someone who always had a smile on her face, loved to laugh, and was an avid Girls Ice Hockey Player. Our hearts go out to her friends, family, and loved ones at this most difficult time," Ahern said.
