Following a significant trade that saw the Philadelphia Flyers ship forward Cutter Gauthier to Anaheim in return for defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a high draft pick, the Ducks are believed to be seriously considering a rebuild that could lead to another blockbuster move. The name of star forward Trevor Zegras has been mentioned in trade chatter ever since his close buddy Drysdale was moved, and it prompted Hooked on Hockey magazine to come up with a possible trade scenario.
The mock trade sends Zegras to the Montreal Canadiens, where the young forward would reunite with one of his best friends Cole Caufield. However, any potential trade involving Zegras will demand a hefty return, no matter which team looks to acquire him. If the Habs were to follow the lines of this mock trade suggested by Hooked on Hockey, it would mean sending Juraj Slafkovsky to Anaheim.
This certainly gets Habs’ fans talking as Slafkovsky has been thriving this season in Montreal. He’s collected five goals and 16 points in 43 games and looks more confident and mature on the ice.
Zegras, who is currently sidelined due to a broken ankle that required surgery, has had a rougher time in Anaheim. After missing training camp in September to his prolonged contract negotiations before agreeing to a three-year deal worth an average annual value of $5.8 million, he has been limited to just seven points in 20 games. And now he needs to recover from his fractured ankle, which puts an halt to trade rumours at this time.
When Drysdale was moved, many insiders wondered if Zegrad would follow him out of Anaheim. Hooked on Hockey Magazine certainly believes a move could be in the cards later on and made this bold suggestion.
Would you pull the trigger if you were one of the GMs involved in this mock trade?
