Top Eastern contender “really kicking the tires” on J.T. Miller!
A trade is brewing and it could escalate quickly. Full story below:
With the apparent feud between Canucks forwards J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson in the spotlight in Vancouver, speculations are ongoing, leading to the belief that the two forwards could be on the move.
It has been reported in the past that the Canucks hoped that all of this would calm down on its own, but rumours keep swirling around and it feels one of the two star forwards will be moved prior to the March 7 deadline.
And on Friday, one report hints at Miller being the one leaving Vancouver.
According to Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects, “there’s some smoke out there that the Devils are really kicking the tires on JT Miller.”
Miller holds a full no-trade clause which gives him control on what happens next, while Pettersson has no such trade protection, but insider Chris Johnston recenlty reported that Miller “is the more likely of the two players to be moved.” There is a sense out there that he could waive that clause for the right situation.
And the Devils might just be it.
Just recently, 2022 second overall pick Simon Nemecmade it clear to media today that he’s not happy with the way his career is playing out with the Devils and admitted that a trade demand could be coming soon. Frustrated with being forced to play with the AHL’s Utica Comets this season, Nemec said, “It’s a business, but…right now I can’t remember any No. 2 draft pick that went to the farm for a third year.”
“It’s hard to say, it’s still too early to request a trade. If this situation continues, it will have to be addressed, but for now, this is how it stands. I believe I’ve proven multiple times that I belong in the NHL.”
A move involving Nemec to Vancouver could make a lot of sense.
New Jersey is currently sitting second in the Metropolitan division, set to take part in the postseason. While Miller has been linked to one of the Devils’ top rivals in the Rangers, where he began his NHL career in New York, he could be open to joining New Jersey since the Blue Shirts are out of the playoff picture at this time.
Most rumours this season have surrounded the Canucks, but but they have yet to make a significant move so far.
Could they go ahead and pull the trigger on this Miller deal that would send him to New Jersey?
