Tom Wilson is here to stay in Washington. The Capitals have announced on Friday morning that the team has re-signed the gritty forward a seven-year, $45.5 million contract extension beginning with the 2024-25 season.
“Tom possesses all the intangibles needed to win in this League and we are extremely pleased to sign him to a long-term contract, giving him the opportunity to finish his career in a Capitals’ uniform,” said GM Brian MacLellan in a team release. “Throughout his career, Tom has improved every facet of his game through his drive and competitiveness. We feel his work ethic and leadership qualities will be a tremendous asset to our organization for years to come.”
The veteran forward was entering the final year of his deal and would have been a pending unrestricted free agent next summer. The poor guy is coming off an injury-riddled season as he recovers from surgery for a torn ACL and a fractured ankle.
In just 33 games last season with the Caps, Wilson had 13 goals and 22 points. He is pleased to be staying in DC.
