The New Jersey Devils and forward Timo Meier have agreed on an eight-year $70.4 million contract extension, worth $8.8 M AAV per season.
Meier was scheduled to become a restricted free agent this summer, but is officially off the board.
The star forward was acquired by New Jersey this past February from the San Jose Sharks in a multi-player transaction. He is at the end of a four-year, $24 million deal he signed with the Sharks in July of 2019.
He scored nine goals and added five assists in 21 games with the Devils down the stretch of the regular season, adding two goals and two assists in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He finished the 2022-23 season with 40 goals and 26 assists in 78 games. He will continue to be a reliable point producer for the Devils, who have emerged as top contender for the near future.
