The season is over for the New York Rangers after their having blown a 2-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference Final against the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are now on their way to their 3rd straight Stanley Cup Final.

It's a particularly disappointing setback for the Rangers, who won 52 games during the 2021-22 regular season and had aspirations of ending their championship drought that dates back to 1994. And one of the main reasons for their success during the season was the play of goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who firmly established himself as New York's first bonafide No. 1 goaltender since the retirement of the legendary Henrik Lundqvist.

However, they'll almost certainly have a new face playing behind DeSmith, as Alexandar Georgiev isn't likely to be returning to the Big Apple. Rangers GM Chris Drury will have plenty of options at his disposal when it comes time to bring aboard an established figure to play behind their Vezina Trophy candidate.

Take a look at three of the potential options listed below:

1. Casey DeSmith

The Penguins backup net minder posted an 11-6-5 record during the 2021-22 season and was Pittsburgh's starter headed into the 2022 postseason thanks to an injury to Tristan Jarry, though he would soon injure himself and elect to undergo core muscle surgery. His cap hit this year was a reasonable $1.25 million.

2. Jaroslav Halak

The veteran goaltender is well traveled, having suited up for the likes of Montreal, St. Louis, Boston, the New York Islanders, and Vancouver over the past several seasons. He's only 15 wins away from 300 in his career.

3. Ville Husso

The Blues goaltender stepped in for Jordan Binnington during the regular season and excelled, and was even named the starter for St. Louis at the beginning of the 2022 postseason. While Binnington would find his way back into the crease, it was Husso taking the reigns the rest of the way after the former was injured in a collision with Nazem Kadri.
