The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced what is a relatively minor piece of business, but it is a piece of business that no doubt will be very well received by Leafs fans.
According to an official announcement via the team's website, the Leafs have come to terms on a contract extension with veteran forward Jason Spezza. Spezza has proven to be an invaluable asset for the Leafs in spite of the fact that at 37 years of age he is definitely in the latter stages of an NHL career. The native of Toronto Ontario joined the Leafs last season on a very team friendly type of contract and was solid for the team recording 8 goals and 16 assists for a combined total of 25 points. Spezza is of course not the player he was earlier in his career, but at the prcie tag the Leafs were paying him there's little doubt that he earned his keep.
This new deal will be very similar in nature, with the Leafs reporting that this will once again be a once year deal and that it will see Spezza earning the league minimum salary of $700,000.
