Terrible update on Elias Pettersson on Saturday night.
NHL insider shares a worst case scenario update on Canucks star Elias Pettersson.
There are many fans of the Vancouver Canucks that have already thrown in the towel when it comes to their team's playoff hopes of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs, but after this latest update from Saturday night the rest of the Canucks fan base may join them on that boat.
On Saturday night, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman shared the latest on the status of Canucks star forward Elias Pettersson and, although there was a very small silver lining, there was little question that this was a terrible update for Pettersson, the Canucks and their fans. According to Friedman, it seems likely that Pettersson has already played his last game this season, with injury expected to keep him on the sidelines until the end of the regular season.
"Elias Pettersson is a name that we have been keeping an eye on," began Friedman. "He was injured two weeks ago against the Rangers, he has not given up hope on playing this year. One source said they thought it was unlikely that we would see him."
Although Pettersson is having a season he would likely sooner rather forget, one that involved locker room drama that eventually resulted in Canucks star forward J.T. Miller being traded to the New York Rangers, there's no question that he remains one of Vancouver's most important offensive weapons.
The Canucks already had a near-impossible task of climbing back into the playoff picture ahead of them. but with Pettersson now likely to miss the remainder of the season the Stanley Cup playoffs more out of reach than ever.
