Team USA GM Bill Guerin invites Donald Trump to 4 Nations Final
Will the President accept the invite?
Fox News has decided that they give a damn about hockey because... surprise, surprise... there's some controversy to be mined. The American conservative-leaning broadcaster typically doesn't spend a lick of time on hockey but they also never turn down an opportunity to divide the masses, and so today they had team USA GM Bill Guerin on their network to discuss the 4 Nations Final.
Guerin, of course, was asked about Canadian fans in Montreal boo'ing the singer of 'The Star Spangled Banner' and whether or not the current state of international relations between the two countries factored into the three fights that we witnessed to start Saturday's game between Canada and the USA.
"I think a little bit of everything. Canada-U.S. is a huge rivalry in hockey," he said. "I think there was a little bit of a political flare to it. It’s just the time that we’re in. I think our guys used that as inspiration. If you let it get the better of you, then you’re in trouble. But I really do think the players used it as inspiration."
Guerin also used his time on the show to formally invite American President Donald Trump to Thursday night's 4 Nations Finale against Canada.
"We would love it if President Trump was in attendance. We have a room full of proud American players and coaches and staff," he said. "And listen, we’re just trying to represent our country the best way we can."
Honestly, I'd absolutely love it if Trump were in attendance. And I say that as a red blooded, patriotic Canadian. Win or lose, let's give this game as much exposure as possible. The 4 Nations Face-Off has been a huge success for the NHL, so let's use the momentum that this tournament has provided to push our sport forward.
