Team Canada players get threats and nasty personal messages on social media!
This is unacceptable. Very unfortunate…

So much has already been said about Team Canada’s elimination by the Czech Republic in the quarterfinal at the 2024 World Juniors hockey championship.
But I guess some people need to hear this one again: stay civil and don’t go out of your way to call out and blame players - who are children by the way!
TSN commentator for the WJC Gord Miller took to Threads on Wednesday morning to ask fans to stop sending nasty messages to the poor players who are still dealing with the heartbreaking loss. He wrote:
“I understand that people in Canada are disappointed with the QF loss, but it’s disheartening to hear that some of the players are being subjected to nasty personal messages on social media. There’s no need for that, they did their best and lost. Two years ago Canada won a gold medal in OT after a miraculous goal line save by Mason McTavish, last year they won the QF in OT on Conor Bedard’s goal after a deflected Slovak shot hit the shaft of Thomas Milic’s stick. It happens.”
Canada’s run at the 2024 World Juniors hockey championship came to an end with a dramatic decider in the final seconds of regulation. After erasing an early 2-0 deficit and overtime looming, the defending champions were ousted of the tournament when Jakub Stancl scored his second goal of the game with 11.7 seconds left in regulation and Czechia moved on to the tournament’s semifinals on Thursday. Canada, which had played in four straight finals, suffered its first-ever loss to the Czechs in the medal round.
Players, and even former teammates and representatives of the Canadian club, are already so broken by the defeat, they don’t need stupid people coming in and sending nasty stuff in their DMs.
We are talking about kids with enormous pressure to represent their country! These bad fans need to grow up.
