Stunning turn of events in Calgary at an even more surprising time!

Check out what’s now happening in the Flames’ organization after its hot start to 2024-25.

Everyone expected the Calgary Flames to struggle out of the gate in 2024-25. They are however second in league’s standings with a perfect 4-0-0 record heading into this Saturday’s game against the Kraken in Seattle. During the offseason, while the Canadian team did make some move to improve his scoring depth, it was believed that a retooling was in motion and that Calgary would not be a contender this time around. The story feels different now and has reportedly prompted general manager Craig Conroy to check out the trade market, and this time, not to push one of his own players on it.

According to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli, the Flames are currently shopping for a middle-six center to add to the roster.

“There’s not usually much trade activity to start the season, but I’m told that GM Craig Conroy has been working the phones in recent days to try and find a centre to add to the Calgary Flames in their middle-six.”

The insider makes it clear that the timing is surprising, seeing that there isn’t much trade activity at this time of year. But that is not stopping Conroy who keeps working the phones, looking for a right-handed shot that fits into the roster’s age group of 24 to 28 years old.

“They don’t have any interest in tearing things down,” Seravalli added. “They’d actually like to beef up and bolster their lineup if at all possible. But it’s tough in the beginning of the season.”

At the start of the week, it was TSN’s Pierre LeBrun who mentioned that Conroy was not interested in putting on a sale sign in Calgary, adding how he was instead looking to bolster his current roster.

While it may be hard to find exactly what he’s looking for at this time in the season, Conroy could remain patient and get more options on the market as the season unfolds and struggling teams come out as sellers in order to shake things up.

We will need to keep a close eye on this.
