Stunning proposed trade for Canucks’ Bo Horvat that would send him to Boston!

Vancouver Canucks’ Bo Horvat keeps focusing on playing hockey, despite not knowing how much longer he will do it in their uniform. Quite a few teams have been said to be interested in acquiring Horvat’s services, including the Colorado Avalanche, but there is no doubt that more contenders will inquire on Horvat as we get closer to the trade deadline on March 3.

This prompted Sportsnet’s Ryan Dixon to put together four potential trade destinations and returns that could be reached in the coming weeks, though one in particular will have fans in Vancouver on the verge of throwing up.

He then presented his suggestions to Jason Bukala, who spent 15 years in front offices in Nashville and Florida, and he believes the Boston Bruins could have a major trade in the works to bring Horvat on board. The proposed trade has the Canucks sending Horvat, along with forward Aidan McDonough to Boston in return for forwards Fabian Lysell and John Beecher, their 2023 first round pick and 2023 sixth round pick.

This is how Bukala puts it:

“The more I looked at this, the more sense Boston made. All NHL players want to win, but Horvat is that special breed who just burns to lift the Cup and the Bruins would give him a real shot at that. Don’t forget; there’s a precedent here for the Bruins extending freshly acquired players, as they pulled that with Hampus Lindholm last year after acquiring him from the Ducks. The top priority for the B’s is a new contract for pending-UFA sniper David Pastrnak, but they have enough coming off the books this summer that they could squeeze both Pastrnak and Horvat in under the cap.”

While Horvat does not have a say on where he could be traded, it would be understandable that he wouldn’t mind Boston - despite the heated rivalry since 2011. The Canucks have missed the postseason for the sixth time in the past seven years.

Horvat’s final year of a six-year contract at a cap hit of $5.5 million could be tight to fit in Boston. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and is set for a raise. It makes sens that Horvat would go for a high price. He on pace for a career-high 59 goals this season, putting up 21 goals and 20 points in 29 games so far.

But you have to imagine it’d be tough for the fanbase in Vancouver to see their captain in a Bruins’ uniform.
