Stanley Cup champion goalie Philipp Grubauer available to rival teams!

The goalie was just placed on the waiver wire. More details below:

On Wednesday, the Seattle Kraken placed goalie Philipp Grubauer on waivers.

The move comes just a day after Grubauer gave up five goals on 22 shots in Tuesday’s 6-4 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Unfortunately for Grubauer, that was the last straw for Seattle, who ended placing the netminder on waivers.

Grubauer has dropped five straight starts in regulation and has lost six in a row in January and is down to 5-15-1 with a 3.83 GAA and an .866 save percentage through 21 starts this season.

The Kraken will now turn to Joey Daccord, while if not claimed, Grubauer will get a chance to get out of his rut.
Grubauer won the Stanley Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018.

When Kraken general manager Ron Francis signed Grubauer shortly after the expansion draft, the goaltender was coming off a season in which he ranked second in Vezina Trophy votes. Now, Seattle still have two more seasons with his $5.9 million contract.

This reminds fans a lot of what happened with Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who was too recently placed on waivers.

Seattle hosts the San Jose Sharks on Thursday evening.

OTHER WAIVERS NEWS

St. Louis Blues winger Brandon Saad has cleared waivers on Wednesday and has been assigned to the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds. Same goes for the other players that were placed on the wire on Tuesday in Ottawa Senators’ Cole Reinhardt, as well for Milos Kelemen, and Marcus Sylvegård, who both have had their contract terminated by the Utah Hockey Club and Blues respectively.
