Sidney Crosby has signed with the Penguins but it won't be a long term deal this time.

Sidney Crosby has finally signed on the dotted line and fans in Pittsburgh can finally breathe a sigh of relief... for now.

On Monday morning, the Penguins officially announced that they had reached an agreement on a new deal with their star forward and captain, coming to terms on a 2 year contract. Once again Crosby will be tipping his hat to the number he wears in this deal with his contract breaking down to an average annual value and salary cap hit of $8.7 million per season.

Fans in Pittsburgh will of course be very happy to learn that Crosby will be remaining with the team for at least the next few years, but I do wonder what the reaction to the shorter term length this time around will be.

Drosby is 37 years of age which is getting up there in terms of age for an NHL player, but Crosby is no average player. He is coming off of an incredible season in which he recorded 42 goals and added 52 assists, collecting a total of 94 points over a full 82 game campaign.

Crosby still has plenty of gas left in the tank and it will be interesting to see where things go when talk of his contract comes up again in the relatively near future with the short term nature of this deal.
