Sheldon Keefe informed of illegal move in New Jersey!

He hasn’t even started the regular season with his new team:

New Jersey Devils new head coach Sheldon Keefe has been so focused on getting training camp underway and his team onto winning some games in the preseason that he was unaware he could have landed in hot water outside of the rink.
On Wednesday ahead of the preseason game against the Washington Capitals at the Prudential Center, Keefe was informed by ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski that pumping your own gas at the booth in New Jersey is illegal. Keefe, who did not know that was the case, told Wyshynski:

“You know what? I haven’t gotten gas in Jersey since moving. Not once. Is that a thing? I don’t have my own car. I’ve been renting cars.”

Keefe departed from the Maple Leafs this season, shortly after a Game 7 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins, his fourth first-round playoff exit in five years with Toronto. He came to New Jersey just two weeks after that on a four-year contract, hoping to get the Devils back into the postseason after they finally qualified for the playoffs for the first time in four years in 2023-24.

He came to Jersey in the summer and got somewhat acclimated with a new city and job. However, he could have landed in trouble if he had gone to the pump and put gas in his own car. Some fans laughed at Wyshynski’s post with many sharing how they were yelled at many times at clerks for pumping the gas.

Keefe was however not laughing after Wednesday night’s 5-3 loss to the Capitals and called out his own players, even singling out the top forward line.

“I liked our first few shifts, not much after that,” Keefe said. “A lot of not great hockey… They didn’t play hard enough.”

He added: “All a general product of we didn’t play hard enough for good chunks of the game. When you don’t play hard enough, you’re gonna have defensive breakdowns.”

I guess Keefe is still getting acquainted in every aspect of his new life in New Jersey.
