Shane Wright makes his long awaited return to the NHL.

The Seattle Kraken may finally believe that forward Shane Wright is ready for duty in the National Hockey League.

On Sunday, both the Seattle Kraken and the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League released statements to announce that Wright was officially being called up to the NHL roster.

It has not been an easy road back to the NHL for Wright who was once the projected favorite to go first overall at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Although he would appear in 11 games at the NHL level for the Kraken, the team made the decision to send him down to the AHL this season after just 3 games. There Wright put up 20 goals and 23 assists for a total of 43 points over 56 games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, eventually earning himself a call up back to the main roster.

A call up does not guarantee that Wright will play in any NHL games, but it would be a very strange move on the part of the Kraken to do so at this stage of the season without putting Wright into the lineup.

Wright admitted to having a chip on his shoulder after 3 NHL teams, the Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils and Arizona Coyotes, passed up on him in the draft and perhaps he will get the chance to prove them wrong before the end of the 2023-24 regular season.
