There were few players in NHL history as electric as former Detroit Red Wings forward Sergei Fedorov. Easily one of the greatest Russian players of all time, Fedorov defected to Detroit from the Soviet Union and carved out a memorable, Hall of Fame NHL career with three Stanley Cup titles as well as multiple personal accolades.

He's currently serving as head coach of CSKA Moscow, and was honored last year by the KHL by earning their version of the Jack Adams Award after leading en route to their second championship; he would then repeat the feat by leading the team to their second straight title. He had also previously served as their GM.

However, don't expect to see him make a return to the National Hockey League as a coach.

“No one from the NHL called me, the topic was sucked from the finger,” Fedorov told Russian news agency TASS. “I have another year of contract with CSKA. I don’t, didn’t have and won’t have plans to conquer America in a different status.”

Fedorov was previously linked as a potential candidate for Detroit's head coaching vacancy last year before it would ultimately be filled by Derek Lalonde. As a former Columbus Blue Jackets forward, his name has also come up as a potential replacement for the recently terminated Brad Larsen.

“Winning the Stanley Cup and the Gagarin Cup is incomparable,” Fedorov told sport-express.ru. “When I was a player, there were some forces left to celebrate. Now you just switch off after the final siren.”

For fans hoping to see Fedorov return to the NHL, you'll have to wait.
