It is now official. On Tuesday night, there were reports that former NHL pest Sean Avery was on the verge of signing a deal with the Orlando Solar Bears of the ECHL. On Wednesday morning, the team made it official.

However, Avery will need to be patient since he is not off to the start he probably wanted. The Solar Bears made it clear that for now, he will begin his tenure on the team’s reserve list.

It’s been known for a fact that Avery has been mounting a comeback. The former Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers and Dallas Stars forward hasn’t played in a league since his final season in the NHL with the Rangers in 2012, but he recently revealed that he was hoping to return to the NHL.

Sure, the ECHL signing is not the NHL comeback he spoke of, however, it is a great way to catch the attention of scouts and pundits that could get the good word out on his condition. But he needs to get off the reserve list…

Let’s see if he can pull it off. The feisty forward will turn 42 years old in September, recorded just 3 goals in 15 games with the Rangers in 2012 on top of picking up 21 penalty minutes.
