Scottie Upshall has reportedly signed a PTO.

This is certainly a pretty cool comeback story. 

Last season did not go the way that National Hockey League veteran Scottie Upshall would have liked, in fact it probably could not have gone any worse for the 35 year old. Upshall was attempting to fight his way onto the Edmonton Oilers roster in training camp, the Oilers had signed Upshall to a professional tryout offer in the summer of 2019, when a significant knee injury all but ended his hopes of making it back into the NHL. Upshall failed a medical test administered by the Oilers when it was revealed that his knee injury would keep him out for the entirety of training camp.

It was a setback that many felt would be the end of Upshall's career and although it may still prove to be it appears as though Upshall has earned himself another shot at making it back into the NHL. According to a report from the Spittin Chiclets podcast it now appears as though Upshall has once again singed a professional tryout offer, but this time it will not be with the Edmonton Oilers. No instead it appears as though Upshall will be headed down to Texas where he will join the Dallas stars on a PTO. 

Now I will say that it remains to be seen whether or not Upshall, who will turn 36 during the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season, will even make it through training camp and onto the Stars roster this season. Not only is 36 a fairly advanced age for an NHL player, but he is also a full year removed from in game action, and that will be a tough gap to bridge during a single training camp.

That being said Upshall is now slouch and comes with a whopping 750 games of NHL experience under his belt, so there is no question that he knows what it will take for him to crack the main roster. That being said experience will not completely make up for diminished skills and only time will tell if Upshall has managed to maintain the type of form that it will take to compete at the NHL level, all the while being forced to sit on the sidelines.

Upshall currently has 759 career games played and has recorded 138 goals and 147 assists for 285 career points, I hope he gets the chance to add to those totals.
