We have an apparent leak to report.
We aren't calling this one official just yet given that there has been no official announcement in this regard, but it would appear as though the New Jersey Devils' Alternate jersey for this season has been leaked to the general public. A picture was published on the social media account of a self-identified die hard Devils fan, a fan that goes by the handle @Scottyk9, and it appears to show a very real National Hockey League jersey.
The jersey features the league's crest on the collar and the inside of the collar shows what you would normally expect to see on the inside of one of the league's jerseys, including the logo of the league's official jersey partner Adidas.
The user who first published the picture has since locked down his account and as a result it is unclear how exactly he managed to get his hands on this one earlier than everyone else. If I had to guess my money would be on some kind of mix up during processing or in the mail, but that is only speculation on my part.
As for the jersey itself, I must admit that this one would get a hard pass from me. Overall the jersey feels very bland to me with the entire thing looking black and white all over. Sure there is some red around the lettering and on the inside of the collar, but I feel like the red could have been featured more heavily in order to make the jersey a little more stylish.
There's also something a little odd about a jersey simply having the word "Jersey" emblazoned across the front of it, in spite of the fact that it is an obvious reference to the city rather than the article of clothing itself.
It closely resembles the Winter Classic jersey worn by the Chicago Blackhawks back in 2019, and at the time I wasn't a big fan of that jersey either for reasons that are quite similar. I thought it too lacked color and didn't really catch the eye due to the black and white color scheme.
