Rumor: Does Price want out of Montreal?

Multiple NHL insiders spill the beans on a potentially devastating situation for Habs fans.

On last night’s “Saturday Headllines” segment during CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada broadcast, NHL insider Nick Kypreos speculated on the current situation with the Montreal Canadiens and goaltender Carey Price. With the losses piling up and with Price still holding immense value on the trade market, despite his dip in play as of late, could he be on the way out in Montreal? Should Habs GM Marc Bergevin make the decision to blow up his roster and rebuild, would Price stick around to see things through?

According to Kypreos:

“If the Canadiens choose to strip this down now and rebuild it, does it include a goalie making $10.5 million. Does that even make sense? Is (Price) okay with that? Does he want to be a rebuild? It might be out there that Carey Price may not be a Montreal Canadien when it comes to changing over this roster…”

Wow. That would be a bombshell. If Price does indeed hit the open market, Kypreos’ colleague Elliotte Friedman warns that health could be the biggest issue for interested GMs. According to Friedman:

“The biggest question would be health… I think that would be the biggest issue.”

Crazy. Pegged as one of the preseason Stanley Cup favorites, things are getting ugly in Montreal. Could they get even uglier before things start to turn in their favor?
