Rumor: Bruins star blocks major trade at deadline.

The Boston Bruins were pretty quiet ahead of the National Hockey League's trade deadline, but that may not have been by design.

Some very interesting information has started to bubble up to the surface following the conclusion of the National Hockey League's trade deadline on Friday, information that appears to suggest that the Bruins' big move of the day was nixed by one of their very own players.

According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark blocked a trade on Friday for what Weekes has described as concerns based on "geography." Weekes is not only a reputable reporter, but there were a number of other reports throughout the day on Friday that appear to corroborate Weekes' report on this matter.

Earlier in the day Weekes had indicated that the Bruins were working on a goaltending trade, but at the time he had shared no additional insight into the matter.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli has also reported that the Bruins and Los Angeles Kings had a deal in place involving Ullmark, one that failed to get over the finish line for one reason or another.

This would of course line up with Weekes' report that Ullmark himself blocked the trade, with Ullmark perhaps not being open to the idea of moving out to the West Coast in California.

Ullmark, who has a 16 team no trade list, is certainly within his rights to use the leverage he has negotiated into his contract, but this would go a long way to explaining why the Bruins were so quiet at the deadline. It may very well be that the Bruins had other moves planned, moves that may have been contingent on moving Ullmark's contract to the Los Angeles Kings.
