Robin Lehner appears to have gone missing
He hasn't been heard from since June and he has a history with addiction and mental health struggles.
I fear that the worst case scenario for former NHL goaltender Robin Lehner may be playing out for hockey fans in front of our very eyes.
Lehner, who hasn't played an NHL game since 2022, has reportedly broke off all communications with the outside world in recent months. The 33 year old is in the middle of an enormous $25 million lawsuit concerning an exotic reptile farm that he purchased in rural Missouri and recently filed for bankruptcy along with his wife Donya Lehner. Today, his legal representatives Larson & Zirzow in Lehner's native Sweden announced to Swedish publication Expressen that they have dropped Lehner as a client after months of non-communication.
From attorney Zachariah Larson (Translated from Swedish):
"Throughout the Chapter 7 filing, communication with the debtors, particularly Mr. Lehner, has been difficult and often sporadic, requiring attempts to reach Mr. Lehner through individuals who worked to facilitate communication between Mr. Lehner and Larson & Zirzow."
And - since last summer it has gotten even worse.
"Since estimated early June 2024, communication from Mr. Lehner has completely ceased, despite repeated contact attempts by Larson & Zirzow using a variety of methods to not only Mr. Lehner himself but also to the individuals who previously facilitated the communication."
The law firm also writes that the dialogue with Donya Lehner - who is part of the bankruptcy case - has been "minimal" and that, overall, they cannot represent the Lehner couple anymore.
"Furthermore, the debtors have been unable or unwilling to compensate Larson & Zirzow for services rendered, /…/ which has led to an unreasonable financial burden on L&Z and is grounds for rescinding the assignment."
So... essentially Lehner and his wife have gone radio silent and are not paying their bills.
That's very concerning for a person who has been forthcoming about his struggles with addiction and with his mental health. He has openly stated in the past that he has considered suicide on multiple occasions. There's also the possibility that Lehner is indebted to some dangerous people and maybe doesn't want to be found or contact by anyone right now. I don't mean to be flippant with information like this, but there is a real concern from hockey fans today that Lehner's health and safety could be at stake.
Lehner, of course, failed to appear at training camp for the Vegas Golden Knights this season and reached an agreement with the team to essentially terminate his contract.
Our thoughts are with you, Robin. As difficult as things may seem right now, there are better, happier, more rewarding days ahead.
