Rival GM spotted scouting Leafs vs Bruins on Saturday.
A rival GM that loves to make big moves has been spotted personally scouting the Leafs and Bruins.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins have attracted some attention from a rival team, although at this time it is unclear which of these teams is currently being scouted by their oppponent.
On Saturday night, the Maple Leafs were in Boston to face the Bruins and spotted at that game was none other than St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong. Armstrong is known to be one of the most fearless general managers in the entire National Hockey League, something he demonstrated beyond any doubt this summer when he tendered a pair of successful offer sheets to now former Edmonton Oilers forward Dylan Holloway and former Oilers defenseman Phillip Broberg.
As I mentioned it is unclear which team Armstrong was focused on this evening but there are a number of possibilities, not the least of which is the fact that both the Bruins and Maple Leafs currently find themselves on the outside of the playoff bubble early in the season. It seems too early for either team to do anything drastic, but there have been some trade rumors that could potentially fit here.
The Maple Leafs have of course been connected to a potential trade involving defenseman Timothy Liljegren since before the start of the regular season. Liljegren has only appeared in a single NHL game thus far this season, despite signing a new deal with the Maple Leafs earlier this summer, and you have to imagine that he might prefer to play somewhere else given how little ice time he has seen.
It could also be that Doug Armstrong is there in his role as general manager for Canada's team that will play at the Four Nations Face-Off in February, with Armstrong potentially evaluating some of the Canadian talent on the ice this evening. Armstrong could be looking to gauge how well specific players that he was looking to add to his team for the Four Nations Face-Off are currently playing, especially given that Canada will have some difficult decisions to make when it comes to their roster for that tournament.
I don't expect that Armstrong will be forthcoming with his reasons for being at the game this evening, so we will just have to speculate for now.
