After swinging a deal yesterday to land defenseman Vincent Desharnais, there are reports today that the San Jose Sharks could make another trade involving a defenseman.

NHL insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the Sharks are listening in on offers for 26 year old blue liner Mario Ferraro.

From LeBrun:

Ferraro is a very capable defenseman who has played on some truly awful teams in San Jose the past few seasons. He's signed to a reasonable $3.25 million cap hit for next season as well, giving whomever acquires him some cost certainty.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have just traded defenseman Vincent Desharnais to the San Jose Sharks in return for a 2028 fifth-round draft pick.

This is the second time this season Desharnais has been moved. He was traded to Pittsburgh as part of the Marcus Pettersson trade on Feb. 1, 2025 and appeared in ten games with Pittsburgh, earning a +4 rating and collecting four penalty minutes.

In 34 contests with Vancouver, where he had signed as a free agent this past summer, he posted three assists and 34 penalty minutes.

Desharnais was originally selected by Edmonton in the seventh round, 183rd overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft.
