Reports that Patrick Roy could be done as an NHL coach

The Hall of Fame goalie is reportedly on thin ice.

This just in, the New York Islanders have announced that Lou Lamoriello will NOT have his contract renewed this offseason and that the team will look to hire a new general manager this offseason.

The 82 year old Lamoriello was hired by the Islanders back in 2018 and helped guide the team to back to back playoff runs in 2020 and 2021. Prior to that he was general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs for three years. Of course, Lamoriello's Hall of Fame legacy began and was cemented from 1987 - 2015 when he managed the New Jersey Devils to three Stanley Cup championships.

At 82 years old and with nothing left to accomplish in the sport, you have to wonder if this is the end of the road for Lou?

Incidentally, the future of head coach Patrick Roy is up in the future.

NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that Roy and the rest of the team's coaching staff will meet with new management once hired to have a discussion on where they stand.

Prediction: Roy is gone.

Sure, he's only been behind the Islanders bench for two seasons but it's clear that he's a coach with an expiration date. He's fiery, he's divisive and that style only really works when you're getting results. Assuming the Isles go another way this offseason, where could we see Roy resurface? The Anaheim Ducks, New York Rangers, Seattle Kraken, Philadelphia Flyers and maaaaybe the Vancouver Canucks are all looking for someone new behind the bench. Then again... I could also see Roy generating zero interest amongst NHL teams. Again, he's a divisive coach after all.
